[ARCHIVED] 3rd Annual School Safety Summit

Carroll County Schools and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office hosted its 3rd Annual School Safety Summit on July 31, 2015 at the Ag Center in Carrollton. Over 200 participants and visitors attended the event, with participation from all county schools, public safety and health agencies, including Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carroll County Fire Rescue, City of Carrollton Police, City of Carrollton Fire, Villa Rica Police, Temple Police, Mt. Zion Police, Bowdon Police, Whitesburg Police, West Georgia Technical College Campus Police, E-911, West Georgia Ambulance, District 4 Public Health, Tanner and the Coroner’s Office.

Over the course of the morning, participates responded to Active Shooter and Bomb Threat scenarios. County and School Board Attorney Cynthia Daley, Assistant Superintendent Terry Jones, and Major Craig Dodson led the participants through the hypothetical situation to test how each school’s safety plan addressed the scenario and further evaluated it for needed improvements. The more that our school faculty emphasize safety, the better prepared they will be if a real-life event happens at their school.

Carroll County is very fortunate to have so many leaders who will do whatever it takes to keep our school children safe. We are especially appreciative to Sheriff Terry Langley for his sponsorship of the event and to the School Safety Team Members for their continued service.
