The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Carroll County from 4pm on January 6, 2017 until 1pm on January 7, 2017. Please take precautions and avoid driving unless necessary, as conditions will be hazardous.
County and city schools are on 2 hour early release.
Current Conditions – Temperatures in our area are in the mid 30’s and will remain in the mid 30’s or fall into the lower 30’s as the day progresses. Some light rain or a rain/sleet/snow mix may occur during the day today but at this time no accumulation or impacts are expected prior to this evening.
Friday Afternoon into Saturday Morning
Heavier more organized precipitation with much colder air will be moving into the area. The Rain/Sleet/Snow this afternoon may change over to snow quickly this evening with the heaviest snowfall forecast to occur in the overnight hours tonight and into early Saturday morning. Current forecasts show snowfall totals for our area of 3-4 inches. Forecasts are still indicating some narrow bands of heavier snow rates will occur and some of these bands could possibly impact our area. These bands could produce much higher snowfall totals.
Saturday and Saturday Night
Snow should be tapering off Saturday morning but temperatures Saturday are forecast to remain at or just below freezing with overcast skies so melting of any accumulated snow may not occur during the day on Saturday. Temperatures Saturday night are forecast in the 15 degree range which will refreeze any melted snow into black ice.
Temperatures Sunday morning for our area are forecast to be in the 15 degree range with wind chills expected in the 0-5 degree range. These are dangerous wind chills which will also enhance the freezing of the previous snow already on the ground. Travel could still be dangerous along with bitter cold temperatures. Temperatures Sunday are forecast to get above freezing Sunday afternoon with some sun which will provide some melting, but temperatures Sunday night are forecast to fall into the low 20’s again so refreezing could make travel treacherous into Monday morning.
