Carroll County Fire Rescue partners with Carroll County School System to offer National Professional Qualification Firefighter 1 Certification to seniors in high school through the Carroll County College & Career Academy – South. This certification is designed to give trainees all the basic knowledge they need regarding operations and methods in a fire department. This course offers theoretical training on firefighting strategies and principles, as well as practical training with firefighter equipment.

To participate, students must be 18 years old or turn 18 before their graduation date in May and have a valid driver's license.

Students completing the program will be prepared for immediate employment opportunities upon graduation.


January 2023 was the inaugural Firefighter 1 class at CCA. The following May seven high school seniors graduated from the program. Two of those seniors would go on to pursue their career of a firefighter at Carroll County Fire Rescue after high school graduation.
