MEET OUR STAFF

The mission of the Department of Animal Control is to promote the general safety of all the citizens of Carroll County. We do this through the enforcement of the state laws of Georgia and Carroll County's local ordinances.

We also are here to promote the health, safety and welfare of all animals in Carroll County. One of our most important tasks is the promotion of adoption of animals from the shelter. We have many beautiful dogs and cats that are available to good homes. Secondly, we campaign to educate the public about res ponsible pet ownership. The grim task of euthanizing the unwanted and sick animals falls on us, the animal control officers. This duty is always performed in the most humane manner possible. The more pets people adopt from us the more lives we can save.

Georgia requires anyone adopting an animal from any animal shelter to have the pet spayed or neutered. Pets adopted before six months of age must be spayed or neutered at six months. Older animals must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption. The department does follow-up checks on all animals adopted from the shelter to verify compliance with this law.

QUESTIONS

How do I...?

... keep my dog from getting out of my yard?

One thing you can do is have your pet spayed or neutered to control wandering urges.

Where can I find ...?

... a good veterinarian?

We have a list of all veterinarians in Carroll County and a price list of some services.

Why doesn't ...?

... animal control respond to every call at night?

We have one officer on call for all hours that the department is not open. After-hour calls are prioritized. The officer on call is required to work the next day no matter how long he worked the night before.

Who is ...?

... responsible if an animal injures someone or destroys property?

Responsibility belongs to the owner of that animal.
